To quote the official documentation, Kotlin is an open-source statically typed programming language that targets the JVM, Android, JavaScript and Native. Kotlin filled that gap, and has been loved by developers ever since it was announced as the official language for Android. Despite the undisputable reputation of Java as a programming language, Android was long in need for a modern language.
